A.A.S.R. Goals
By: Bernard J. Meister, Venerable Master, Lodge of Perfection, 2008
“One should not pursue goals that are easily achieved. One must develop an instinct for what one can barely achieve through one’s greatest efforts.” Albert Einstein

This past Christmas, I had gotten a poster of Mr. Einstein’s quotes on various subjects. Since then I have been pondering a few of the quotes, how they may relate to the efforts of the Valley, and how they may relate to the efforts of the brethren. Since we all have goals and on many different levels, I thought that this would be a good source of ideas for the valley. ......MORE

Did You Know?
Did you know that Masons have always had great influence on the U.S. Supreme Court.
From the inception of the Supreme Court in 1789 through 1940, there never were less than three Masonic justices during term, except on two occasions. Beginning with Mason President F. D. Roosevelt’s terms, through the first three years of President Richard Nixon’s term, Masons dominated the Court in a ratio of five to four beginning in 1941 to seven to two in 1946.

Passing Of the Gavel
By: Alvin Griffin, KCCH
The gavel has passed, the railroading elections have ceased, new offices are at the controls and ready to go. Since December 2000 I have been club Sec/Treasurer and seldom missed a meeting. Then, the new officers of 2000 were fresh new ideas. We had theme meetings where we dressed up, special parties' for the holidays, guest speakers, new games, bi-annual picnics, and a host of things too numerous to mention. The past years have been fun and rewarding and helped me grow as a Scottish-rite mason. I sat near the new officers last night, they began their first meeting. They kept looking at me for instruction and approval of their progress they conducted the meeting. It felt good to be a mentor too the new officers. now have fresh ideas, maybe new programs, and the good thing is, we have new people in our club, which means we are growing again and Scottish-rite masonry is doing well in Bates County.

Interesting Fact:
The town of Joppa was seaport town that supplied Jerusalem during the construction of King Solomon's Temple. By 1870 it was called Joffa, and today is a suburb of the modern Israeli town of Tel Aviv.

ROBBINS RAMBLINGS
By Ill. Brother Q. C. “Tony” Robbins, 33°

Missouri Masonic Museum Now Open
Missouri now has its own Masonic Museum. The doors opened publicly on February 25, 2008. Located at 6033 Masonic Dr., Ste A, Columbia, MO 65202, the museum is open from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.

The museum incorporates 5 themed galleries, each gallery representing a leader a particular quality. The first gallery, titled “Pathmakers and Patriots”, highlights the impact Meriwether Lewis and William Clark had on the early period in Missouri and how they became involved in the Masonic fraternity.

The second gallery titled, “Living Well”, focuses on Laura Ingalls Wilder, her involvement with the Order of the Eastern Star and how music and education are valued in Masonry and at the Masonic Home.

The third gallery, themed “Generosity”, depicts Jacob Lampert, Past Grand Master, and other Masons and Masonic groups who have provided generous support to the Masonic Home.

The fourth gallery depicts “Leadership”, centering on President and Past Grand Master Harry S Truman and how democratic methods guide lodges.

The Fifth theme, titled “Everyman”, is a rotating exhibition gallery. In it, Masonic lodges and Eastern Star Chapters will have the opportunity to share individual history and symbols used within the Lodges and Chapters over the years.

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS
By Henry ”Woody” Woodward, 32°

There are four areas of membership that I will have in the program to begin with:
Creation, Mentoring, Retention and Restoration
We will have a committee for each of these areas.
ARE YOU?
Are you an active member, the kind that would be missed,
Or are you just contented, that your name is on the list? ....MORE

Interesting Fact:
In lodges of the 1700's the emblems and symbols of the different degrees were drawn on the floor of the lodge with chalk or charcoal. They were obliterated at the end of each meeting because lodges met in rented rooms, and they did not want strangers viewing their secret writings. As this was troublesome and messy they were next painted on cloth or canvas, carried to each meeting and laid on the floor, hence the name 'carpets'. Today, these carpets, or charts as they are now called hang from walls or frames, and are displayed as required for the different degrees.

CANS FOR KIDS PROGRAM REMINDER
The Board of Directors for the Childhood Language Disorders Clinic have instituted a program called “Cans For Kids” that will collect Aluminum cans for recycling to help raise funds for the local Rite Care Clinic at the Temple.

It’s not only good for the environment, it’s good for the Clinic and the kids too! A large box has been placed in the Dining Room of the Temple and will be decorated by the children. Save up your cans (rinse them please) and bring them to the dinner meeting on the 26th of this month.

You folks who are active in the area clubs and Lodges...put out the appeal and help us fill the box!

Kitchen Knights Are Looking For You
By Bernard J. Meister, 32°
The Kitchen Knights are looking for a few good brothers to assist them in their duties. These are the brothers who set the dining area for the monthly dinner meetings and assist in the kitchen duties during the reunions and other such events for the valley. This is an important task and it requires a sincere dedication to the valley and its functions. Our ability to properly present ourselves in this area gives a lasting impression to both our new and older brethren. If you are interested in helping please contact Virden Daughtery through the office at 816-561-2277.

Chapter Rose Croix Closes in Elaborate Ceremony
By: Ron Hewitt, KCCH
The Chapter Rose Croix celebrated its annual Closing Ceremony during the Day of Remembrance which has replaced the traditional Maundy Thursday Service over the last few years.
The Celebration, which remembers the Passover Last Supper of Christ and his apostles, also is a time of remembering those brother Masons who have departed this earth during the prior year.
The Chapter, which each month movers from “Labor to Refreshment” yet remains ‘open’, closes only once each year during the period between the Christian Celebration of Maundy Thursday and Easter. The Chapter will re-light the flames and reopen again, during a ceremony at our March meeting.
